Something not right with your SigBuddy?
Find the word your display is showing, and start there. Almost everything comes down to wifi, or to the Modbus setting in the mySigen app.
FINDING
It never gets past FINDING
Normal at first: the first search takes about a minute. The display then restarts once on purpose and comes back with figures.
Usually because
- Modbus TCP is switched off in the mySigen app. It's off from the factory.
- The display and your Sigenergy system are on different networks: a guest network, a separate "smart home" network, or a second router.
What to do
- In mySigen, open System → System Settings → Modbus TCP Server Settings and switch it on.
- Make sure the display is on the same wifi as your Sigenergy system, not a guest network.
- Still searching? Enter your system's address by hand. You'll find it in the mySigen app on the same Modbus TCP Server Settings screen where you switched it on. Then type it into Settings → Solar system → Change on the 4.3- and 5-inch, or on the display's web page. Settings shows how.
NO LINK
It was working, now it says NO LINK
Usually because
- Your router gave the Sigenergy system a new address after a restart.
- A Sigenergy update switched Modbus TCP back off.
- The system itself is restarting or offline.
What to do
- Wait a minute or two. It reconnects by itself when the system is back, and if it has lost track of the system it searches and finds it again.
- Restart it: unplug the display for ten seconds and plug it back in. It searches again.
- Check Modbus TCP is still on in mySigen.
- To stop it happening again, reserve the Sigenergy system's address in your router (often called "DHCP reservation" or "fixed IP").
It won't join my wifi
Usually because
- SigBuddy uses 2.4 GHz wifi, and was offered a 5 GHz-only network.
- A mistyped password: capitals, or 0 and O.
- A weak signal where the display sits.
What to do
- If your router shows two networks (often one ending "5G"), choose the other one.
- Retype the password slowly.
- Once connected, SIGNAL in Settings shows the strength: green is fine, amber means move it closer to the router.

A figure is grey, or shows --
What it means
- That figure hasn't arrived lately. The display greys it out, then shows dashes, so it never shows you an old number as if it were live.
What to do
- One figure for a moment: nothing. It comes back on its own.
- Everything grey: see NO LINK.
- Only the clock or KWH TODAY stays blank: restart the display. Also check your Sigenergy system's own firmware is up to date in the mySigen app, at Settings → System Settings → Software Update, and update it if needed. If it's still blank, email us a photo of the screen.
OFF GRID
It's flashing OFF GRID
Not a fault. Your Sigenergy system has switched to backup because the grid is down, and the battery and solar are running the house. The grid figure shows zero until the grid comes back, and the flashing stops by itself.
The numbers look wrong
Usually because
- Grid shows IMPORT when you're exporting, or the reverse: the grid meter's clamp may be fitted the other way round.
- House differs from the app: chargers and smart loads may be counted differently.
What to do
- Take a photo of the display and a screenshot of the mySigen app at the same moment.
- Email both to us. A matched pair is usually all we need to sort it out.
EV
My car doesn't show
Check first
- Firmware 4.0.0 or later (see Updating).
- The charger is chosen: Settings → Display options on the 4.3- and 5-inch, Site options on the 2.8-inch's web page.
- With an AC charger, the car is drawing power. It appears once it's charging at about 1 kW or more, so a car that's plugged in but not charging doesn't show.
DC chargers
- SEARCHING It's looking for the charger. Allow a few minutes.
- NOT FOUND Enter your inverter's Modbus device number on the display's web page (your installer will know it), or choose AC instead, which still shows a more basic view.
Updating the firmware
How
- Find the display's address: THIS DISPLAY in Settings.
- Open it in a browser on the same wifi and tap Download and install.
If it doesn't go to plan
- The page won't open, or doesn't load at all: restart the display (unplug it for ten seconds, plug it back in), wait a minute, then try again. Check your phone is on the same wifi, not mobile data.
- No update offered: it's already current, or it's from before the update button. Email us and we'll get it current.
- "The download from sigbuddy.com failed": the phone needs internet as well as your wifi. Try again.
- An update that fails never leaves the display broken. It keeps the version it had.
The screen is blank, flickers, or keeps restarting
Usually because
- The USB power. A few high-power chargers and long thin cables don't suit it.
What to do
- Try a different USB charger, ideally an ordinary phone charger.
- Try the cable that came in the box.
Starting over
How
- 4.3- and 5-inch: Settings → Factory reset, then confirm.
- 2.8-inch: hold the BOOT button for 6 seconds.
What it does
- Forgets the wifi and where your solar system is, then restarts into setup.
- Doesn't change anything on your Sigenergy system. SigBuddy only ever reads from it.
