Setting up your SigBuddy
Before you start: turn on the Modbus TCP server
SigBuddy reads your solar system directly, over your home wifi. Your Sigenergy system will not answer until this setting is switched on — it is off from the factory.
In the mySigen app:
System → System Settings → Modbus TCP Server Settings
Switch it on and save.
Can't see the menu, or it won't let you change it? Some installers lock these settings. Ask your installer to turn the Modbus TCP server on — it is a normal request and takes them a moment.
Setting it up
1. Power on
Plug SigBuddy in. It starts up in setup mode and shows a QR code.
2. Join the display's own wifi
Scan the QR code on the screen with your phone's camera. That joins your phone to the display.
Prefer to do it by hand? Open your phone's wifi settings and join:
3. Open the setup page
Most phones pop the page up on their own. If nothing appears, open a web browser and go to:
192.168.4.1
4. Fill in the questions
Your home wifi — pick your network from the list and type its password.
Choose the same network your Sigenergy system is on. SigBuddy needs to be able to reach it. Note that it can only join 2.4 GHz networks — if your router lists 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz separately, pick the 2.4 GHz one.
Home battery — Yes if you have a Sigenergy battery, No if you have solar only.
Grid connection — Yes for almost everyone. Choose No only if the site is fully off-grid, with no connection to the network at all.
Both change the diagram the display draws, so it only shows what your system actually has.
Press Connect. SigBuddy restarts, joins your wifi, finds your Sigenergy system and starts showing live power. That's it.
Starting over
To wipe the wifi details and your answers about the site, and go back to setup:
- Press and hold the BOOT button on the back of the unit.
- After a second the screen shows FACTORY RESET and counts down from 5.
- Keep holding until it reaches zero. Let go at any point to cancel.
The display erases its settings and restarts into setup mode, ready for step 2 above.
Use this if you change your wifi password, move the unit to a different network, or answered either question wrongly.
If something isn't right
The screen says it can't find the system
Check the Modbus TCP server is still switched on in mySigen, and that SigBuddy is on the same network as your Sigenergy system.
The setup page never appears
Type 192.168.4.1 into a browser yourself. A phone with a VPN or private DNS turned on won't raise it automatically; switching those off for a minute also works.
The figures look greyed out
SigBuddy has lost contact with the system. It greys old readings rather than hiding them, so you can always tell live from stale. It reconnects on its own.
Still stuck
Email contact@sigbuddy.com. Tell us what the screen says and we will work it out with you.
